Dell Precision 17 7730 Review | Is It Worth Buying?

If you need the most powerful laptop, regardless of cost or size, look no other than the Dell Precision 17 7730. This workstation has flaming quick performance and an adorable 4K screen with beautiful colors. Factor in a comfortable keyboard, top structure, and solid build quality, and this device hits (almost) all the correct notes.

The Precision 7730’s 17-inch screen gives you a home theater viewing adventure. Its multicolor 4K panel is prominent, and the colors it delivers are striking. 

The panel reproduced a staggering 211 percent of the sRGB color gamut, gaining among the top ratings. While the Lenovo ThinkPad P71 (183 percent) and HP ZBook 17 G4 (173 percent) were also impressed, their panels were no near as bright as the Precisions. The workstation average is much down, at 149 percent.

With this device’s matte display and excellent peak brightness, you should have no problem using the Precision 7730 on a sunny day. The display had a greatest luminance of 330 nits, which is higher than the ThinkPad P71 (283 nits) scores and HP ZBook 17 G4 (256 nits). The workstation average is also murkier, at 325 nits.

“Precision” is a term that refers to accuracy and performance. It’s no wonder that Dell named its high-performance workstation brand after this. This assessment will focus on the Precision 7730, a 17.3-inch device that replaces the Precision7720. 

Although the market for mobile workstations remains small, it is an appealing sector for OEMs due to its high demanding prices.

Despite not having the most delinquent HP device, Dell is battling for a share of the mobile workstation market. We have the ThinkPad P72 Celsius H980 and the Precision7720 to experiment with the Precision 7730.

The Precision 7730 is almost similar in build to its previous models. Although the Precision 7730 case is more minor, it has the same keyboard, trackpad, and ports display as the Precision 7720.

NVIDIA Quadro P5200

The Nvidia Quadro P5200 is a high-end portable workstation graphics card for laptops. Identical to the consumer GeForce GTX 1080 (Laptop).

It is established on a GP104 chip with 2560 shaders but uses a bit slowly GDDR5 instead of GDDR5X of the GTX1080. The Quadro P5200 is the successor to the Quadro P5000.

There will be a regular (Max-P) and a slower but more efficient (Max-Q) card variant. The Precision 7730 is an ideal workstation with a class-leading version and a brilliant, dazzling 4K display. A comfortable keyboard, premium design, and capable GPU are icing on the cake. I wish the laptop’s battery life lasted a few hours longer and the chassis didn’t get warm under a severe workload. 

The Precision 7730 faces a brutal contest. The $6,059 HP ZBook 17 G4 also has a beautiful display and super-fast performance, but it stayed calm during our testing and has much longer battery life.

On the other hand, the HP workstation’s presentation is rather dim and has a flat design. The $4,643 Lenovo ThinkPad P71 is another practical workstation; it has a color-correcting 4K panel and an excellent keyboard. However, the P71’s hard drive can’t keep pace with the Precision 7730’s.

The Precision 7730 is an excellent all-around workstation that I recommend — if you can afford it.

The mobile Quadro P5200 generally exceeds the desktop Quadro P4000 in Viewperf 13.0. Viewperf is an industry-standard standard for workstations. It concentrates on the workstation’s visual performance.
